ITE: Institute of Transportation Engineers
Purpose:The Institute of Transportation Engineers is a professional society dedicated to advancing the study of transportation design, planning and construction. Being one of the major fields within Civil Engineering, transportation engineering presents a wide variety of career options for the students at the Cooper Union. The club will strive to be a liaison between Cooper students and professionals in the traffic and transportation industry. This club will allow students to participate in a wide variety of activities, seminars and discussions in the metropolitan region and beyond, including the ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl.
More concisely, the purpose of this club is as follows:
1. To promote and encourage interest in the transportation field.
2. To educate about the transportation field.
3. To assist in networking and job seeking within the transportation field.
Contribution:Under the guidance of adjunct professor Dr. Lennon PE, the Cooper ITE student chapter will strive to increase understanding and interest in the transportation industry conduct through site visits, guest speakers and events such as the ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl. In doing such the club will contribute to the student body by way of educating that body about a major field of engineering and by assisting in networking and job seeking opportunities. As transportation also relies heavily on mechanical systems for actual conveyance, electronic systems for signaling and data handling, and architectural designs as well as art installations for stations, these contributions will not be solely limited to the civil engineering students of The Cooper Union.
